This is a generic error message from AVG to tell you it could not install. Well, we already figured that out but why won't it install? It seems that AVG is promoting it's Paid online support and they attempt to get you to contact them to fix the problem with one of their Experts, PLEASE!!! They can't figure it out before releasing the software but they can figure it out after charging you for support. What a scam...
Here are some solutions that might work for you:
Use the AVG Remover tool and any other toll from the other Anti-Virus sellers to remove their products also.
This is the one that worked for me:
I installed another Anti-Virus program trial (Avast) then uninstalled it. After that I could install AVG fully. It seems that AVG cannot detect the firewall settings any more an fails.
In this case it was Windows Defender that AVG could not stop and replace and so it failed. Avast detected Windows Defender and turned it off.
